About Robben Florist
A Cincinnati tradition since 1931. Three generations of family ownership, 95+ years of horticultural excellence.
From a family farm to Cincinnati’s trusted source for plants and flowers.
Welcome to Robben Florist & Garden Center, where family tradition meets horticultural expertise. For over 95 years, we’ve been helping Cincinnati families celebrate life’s special moments and create beautiful outdoor spaces. As a third-generation, family-owned business, we take pride in our deep roots in the Western Hills community and our commitment to quality, service, and the art of growing.
From our humble beginnings as a family farm operation to today’s full-service florist, garden center, and wholesale greenhouse, we’ve grown alongside the Cincinnati community we serve. Our story is one of perseverance, passion, and an unwavering dedication to plants, flowers, and the people who love them.
Our History
From a family farm to Cincinnati's trusted source for plants and flowers. Discover the milestones that shaped Robben Florist & Garden Center.
The Family Farm
George Robben Sr. and his brother Ben worked the family farm at 352 Pedretti Avenue in Delhi Hills, growing lettuce, tomatoes, and vegetables that they transported and sold at farmers markets throughout Cincinnati.
A New Direction
Ben chose to leave the farm operation for a business career, and George Robben Sr. took over the family farm, marking the official beginning of what would become a Cincinnati institution.
From Produce to Flowers
After marrying Agnes Bross and acquiring 20 acres from his father, George Robben Sr. constructed the first greenhouse. The operation transitioned from growing produce to cultivating various types of cut flowers and plants. With Agnes's help and family support, George Robben Florist was established.
Hailstorm Recovery
A devastating hailstorm swept through Delhi, breaking 10,000 panes of glass in the greenhouse. Through the dedication of friends, family, and community support, the greenhouse was repaired and returned to full operation—a testament to the resilience that would define the business for generations.
Brothers Take the Helm
George Sr. and Agnes sold the florist to their sons, George Jr. and Ray Robben. The brothers renamed the business Robben Florist and Greenhouses and expanded operations, adding additional greenhouses and a larger showroom to meet growing demand.
Community Strength
On December 26, 1988, an electrical fire destroyed the showroom and greenhouses. Once again, with the unwavering support of family, friends, and the Delhi Township community, Robben Florist and Greenhouses rebuilt—stronger and more committed than ever.
Pumpkinfest Tradition
Throughout the 1990s, the Robben family and staff hosted the beloved Pumpkinfest each October, bringing the community together for fall festivities. Sadly, Ray Robben passed away in November 1996, leaving George Jr. as sole owner and carrying on the family legacy.
New Leadership
George Jr. decided to semi-retire and passed the business to his son Ron Robben (third generation) and Ron's wife Melissa. The name officially changed to Robben Florist & Garden Center Inc., marking a new era while honoring decades of tradition.
Growing Forward
Ron and Melissa modernized operations by converting glass greenhouses to more efficient plastic structures and expanding the wholesale operation. They broadened the retail selection while maintaining the personalized service and quality that customers had come to expect.
A Living Legacy
Today, Robben Florist & Garden Center operates as a full-service florist, garden center, and wholesale greenhouse.
